Stucco painting and crack repair in Reno
Stucco soaks up paint and moves with temperature. Treat it like siding and the paint cracks with it. We patch the cracks first, then apply a coating made to flex.
Improve the Appearance of Your Home with Professional Stucco Painting
Do you want to change the color of your home with stucco painting? While painting your home is a great idea, you shouldn’t attempt to paint stucco on your own. While this textured paint is very common in the Northern Nevada area, painting it takes a lot of training and experience. You may feel tempted to buy some paint and roll on a fresh coat, but you won’t get the same results that a professional painter would provide.

Why Reno stucco cracks
Stucco is rigid, but your home is not. Wide daily temperature swings, often 30 to 40 degrees between afternoon and night, make walls expand and contract. Add seismic movement and settling on expansive clay soils in parts of Sparks and South Reno, and hairline cracks are almost guaranteed around windows, doors, and corners.
Small cracks let water in. When that water freezes, it widens the crack and can stain or loosen surrounding stucco. Painting over cracks without patching them only hides the problem for a season.
Elastomeric versus standard acrylic
Elastomeric coatings go on thick and stretch, bridging hairline cracks so water stays out. They are a strong choice for homes with active cracking. The trade-off is cost, slightly more sheen, and lower breathability, so we do not recommend them for every wall.
For stucco that is mostly sound, a high-quality 100 percent acrylic masonry paint gives excellent color retention under Nevada UV and lets moisture escape. We often combine the two: elastomeric patching at cracks with acrylic finish coats.
Spraying and back-rolling stucco
Stucco texture has thousands of small voids. Spraying alone can leave pinholes, so we spray and then back-roll each section to push the paint into the texture. It takes more time, but it gives even color and better protection.

How we do it
- Step 1
Wash
We pressure wash and let the stucco dry fully, usually 24 hours in Reno.
- Step 2
Repair
Cracks are routed, filled with elastomeric patch, and textured to match.
- Step 3
Prime
We apply a masonry primer where the stucco is new or patched.
- Step 4
Coat
Elastomeric or 100% acrylic finish is back-rolled into the texture.
Stucco painting in Reno, Sparks, and Spanish Springs
Stucco is the most common exterior in newer Truckee Meadows neighborhoods, including Damonte Ranch, Double Diamond, Wingfield Springs, Somersett, and much of Spanish Springs. Many of these homes are reaching 15 to 25 years old, which is when the original builder paint has faded and cracks have spread. We also work with Sparks and Reno HOAs on approved stucco color palettes.
Stucco Painting questions from Reno homeowners
Why Choose Stucco Painting Services?
Stucco homes are known for their durability and classic look, but even the toughest surfaces need upkeep. Over time, stucco can fade, crack, or become stained from weather exposure. That’s where professional stucco painting comes in. A fresh coat of paint does more than just improve curb appeal—it also protects your stucco from moisture damage, UV rays, and other elements that can cause long-term wear. At Battle Born Painting, we specialize in painting stucco homes with the right materials and techniques to keep them looking great for years to come.
How Long Does Stucco Paint Last?
With proper prep and high-quality paint, stucco painting can last 10 years or more. Our team uses premium elastomeric paint that expands and contracts with the surface to reduce cracking.
Do You Fix Cracks Before Painting Stucco?
Yes. We repair all visible cracks and surface imperfections as part of our prep process to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish.
Is Special Paint Needed For Stucco?
Absolutely. We use breathable, flexible paint specifically formulated for stucco to allow moisture to escape while protecting against the elements.
How Do You Clean The Stucco Before Painting?
We use a low-pressure washing system to remove dirt, debris, and any mildew without damaging the surface. Cleaning is a crucial first step.
Can You Change The Color Of Stucco?
Yes, stucco can be painted virtually any color. We’ll help you choose a shade that complements your home and holds up against sun exposure.
Do I need elastomeric paint?
Only if you have active hairline cracking. It costs more and changes the sheen, so we recommend it case by case.
Do you paint fascia at the same time?
Yes. Most stucco jobs include fascia and trim. We replace rotted boards before painting.
How often should stucco be repainted in Reno?
Every 8 to 12 years for most homes. South and west walls fade faster and sometimes need attention sooner.
Can you match my existing stucco texture?
Yes. We match common Reno textures like sand, lace, and dash when patching so repairs blend in after painting.
